The National Museum of Contemporary Art was designed by Takis Zenetos and opened in 2015. It’s aim is to be ‘a driver of socially progressive and emancipatory values in society.’ Its focus is on key current issues such as democracy, governance, equity and the environment.
There were a number of temporary exhibitions but overwhelming were the artworks from the collection with their focus on war, displacement and violence.
The artworks relating to the occupation of Palestine in 1947 was sobering and provided an opportunity to reflect on the war that is taking place now in Gaza and likely to spread to the surrounding region.
