Margaux Williamson is a Toronto artist whose work is on exhibition at MOCA. Titled ‘Shoes, books, hands, building and cars’ the work covers the entire third floor that is broken up to allow the viewer to be absorbed into each of the paintings.
There’s no clutter or chance of diversion here!
As you walk through the spaces the paintings are subtle but bold and float in their space just as the personal objects in the paintings ‘drift freely across her canvases’.
Her work is dream like but just as one awakens during the night the dreams appear to be reality!
Her most recent paintings were commissioned by the MOCA and reflect the architecture of the massive building its columns and hard surfaces.
‘Her style embraces an abstract, gestural quality that invites multiple interpretations, creating a sense of both intimacy and distance’.
