The exhibition at the British Library ‘Beyond the Bassline : 500 years of Black British Music’ draws on the depth of black music that inhabits Britain and the search for a genre that is British. The many and varied exhibits explore the people, the places and the genres that have formed a British soundtrack. It is a rich history from the the ocean, the stage, the frontlines, the record shop to cyberspace and the underlying search for recognition politically, socially and culturally in the colonising country.
